About the Team
Model United Nations is an activity in which students learn about diplomacy and international relations through the lens of the United Nations. The simulation engages students and allows them to develop a deeper understanding of current and past world issues. It is a way to become a more aware international citizen, which, in this era of globalization, is more important than ever.
Furthermore, Model UN builds confidence, fosters leadership, and teaches key diplomatic skills. MUN is an exercise in research, public speaking, and teamwork and is beneficial to academic development.
Additionally, the lifelong friendships forged and memories are some of the highlights of our conference experience, whether we're traveling or attending local conferences.

The Secretariat
Secretary General- Evan Farley
Evan is a Year 1 at BHSEC and this is his third year with the team. As the Secretary-General he presides over the direction of the team. He organizes the undersecretaries, delegates all responsibilities not specified, acts as the principal when interacting with the administration, participates in regularly scheduled in-person meetings with the faculty advisor, and serve as Secretary General during all team run conferences. Evan's previous position as USOC has prepared him to lead this team into another glorious year of MUN. It has always been an aspiration of his to participate in politics, and MUN offers a great outlet for him to learn the art of politicking, especially in the subjects of diplomacy, public speaking, and so much more. Over his MUN career, Evan has won Outstanding Delegate at the Cornell Model United Nations Conference and won outstanding delegate at Stuyvesant High School Model United Nations Conference.
Under-Secretary General- Sinziana Stanciu
Sinziana is a Year 1 student at BHSEC and has participated in Model UN since freshman year as a leading member overall. As the Under Secretary General she is the deputy to the Secretary General. She arranges transportation and lodging whenever necessary, serves as Director General during all team run conferences, and provides guidance to the Secretary General. She is also responsible for the organization of any team run conferences. This activity has been more than a club & pushed her interest in politics and international affairs like never before. As someone who is very engaged in multiple cultural communities it has been a wonderful and unique educating experience. She won a verbal award at her first Model UN conference at Bard College and a verbal award at the prestigious Ivy League Model United Nations Conference. These achievements are notable for a small school like BHSEC and represent just the beginning of a larger journey ahead. Her interest and love for Model UN continue to grow with every single conference.
Under-Secretary of Conferences- Darya Forhoohar
This is Darya's second year on BHSEC’s model un team and she is really excited to see how they can improve the team’s performance this year. As the under-secretary of conferences, it is her job to handle the external conference logistics, which includes finding and registering for conferences. Darya hopes to increase the amount of conferences the team can attend this year, as they are great ways members of the club can display their MUN skills and build friendships. Although it is only her second year of MUN, she has confidence for the future and is very excited for the upcoming year. She has won Outstanding Delegate at BardMUNC 2018 and is exited to develop her skills and debate new topics at future conferences.
Under- Secretary of Finance- Victoria Mui
Victoria is currently a Year 1 student at BHSEC and this is her second year doing Model UN . As the previous year progressed, she was a leading member by outreaching to external benefactors to provide more opportunities for students who share the same interests in MUN like herself. MUN has given her a voice that was found by being pushed out of her comfort zone. The Undersecretary of Finance accounts for all money handled by the club. She runs fundraisers, ensures the economic feasibility of attending conferences, overseess the collection of money from members, and works with the faculty advisor and the administration to ensure no student is ever excluded from participation for monetary reasons. The Ivy League Model United Nations Conference was her first major MUN Conference, alongside numerous schools standing out amongst nearly 100 different delegations only to be the small country of Portugal! ILMUNC 2018 was an amazing and unforgettable experience and only further peaked Victoria's interest in the intense world of politics.
Under- Secretary of Management- Declan Gunn
Declan is a Sophmore at Bard High School Early College Manhattan, this is his second year on the team. As Undersecretary of Management, he coordinates communication with members, maintains the mailing list, updates the bulletin board, and is tasked with recruitment. He's been participating in Model UN since he was a middle schooler, however, and he indirectly owes many of his accomplishments today to Model UN. In addition to being a fun extracurricular activity, Model UN helped him recognize his talent in and enjoyment of public speaking, which has benefited him in all walks of life, from schoolwork to social activism. In the past two years, he's been to three conferences and won awards at each of them. Declan received Best Delegate awards at Global Classrooms International Model UN (GCIMUN) and Saint Ann’s Model UN (SAMUN), in addition to winning Outstanding Delegate at the Ivy League Model UN Conference (ILMUNC) this January.
